Bespoke Stained Glass Panel

Old John, Bradgate Park Stained Glass Panel

Consultation and design of this project started in April 2003 and was completed in September 2003.

The customer visited the Norman & Underwood Stained Glass Studio to discuss an idea that he had concerning a stained glass door panel.

He wanted an image of a famous Leicestershire landmark and chose Old John, the distinctive 18th century ruin situated in Bradgate Park.

Old John Tower stands proudly on a hill overlooking Bradgate Park. It was built in 1784 as a folly, and contains two rooms. Its distinctive 'mug' shape is well known in Leicestershire.

This story is told locally about how the tower came by its name; a windmill had previously stood on the hill, and the miller was known as Old John.

To make the design more personal to himself and his family our customer decided to incorporate flowers that represented certain members of his family.

Our design team worked very closely with him regarding the layout and colour scheme of the design.

The stained glass window is situated in an internal door between his kitchen and hall in his home.
