A window that was constructed in thanksgiving for the life and service of Swithland man, Robert Brian Osborne (1944 1999), has been unveiled by Canon Horton at St Leonards Church, Swithland, Leicestershire.
Known as the Osborne window, the new memoriam will help people to remember the loyal service that local farmer, Robert Osborne gave to both the church and community throughout his life.
Incorporated in the design of the window are armorial bearings relating both to he history of Swithland, and also to the life of Robert Osborne. The latter includes the arms of Sir Cyril Osborne (father of Robert) and the arms of the Worshipful Company of Bakers and the Worshipful Company of Framework Knitters. Mr Osborne was a member of both Livery Companies.
Designed and constructed by Norman & Underwoods Stained Glass and Leaded Light studio in Leicester, the elaborate window project was overseen by studio supervisor, Angus Wallace, who comments:
The window will be an attractive addition to what is already a beautiful church. Working so closely with Canon Horton, helped us to realise the memorial purpose, for which the window was intended.
The new stained glass memorial window is now on view for all to see inside St Leonards Church in Swithland. |
