Norman & Underwoods Roofing Division have won a huge contract to re-roof the North Porch and North Isle of Salisbury Cathedral. The enormous project will require around 45 tonnes of lead to complete the restoration of this prestigious historic building.
This is the first major job that the new Roofing Division team have taken on, under the directorship of John Castleman, who recently took over the division, following the recent retirement of Arthur Harrison.
In its 175th year, Norman & Underwood said goodbye to Arthur after 50 years, and new director Johns experience speaks for itself. At **, Leicester-born John is well qualified for his new role, as he has worked with lead since leaving school, as a plumber and fully trained Norman & Underwood lead craftsman. John also represents the fifth generation of lead workers in the Norman & Underwood family, as a descendent of the original Mr. Underwood.
John, who managed projects at The Dome of the Rock in Jerusalem and Hampton Court comments: I hope to increase the turnover of the division and preserve and build on the good reputation of the company. We are also looking to capitalise on international opportunities, an area in which we are well experienced.
With high profile work, such as the project at Salisbury Cathedral, I feel that the new Roofing Team has got off to great start.
Norman & Underwoods Roofing Division has also recently won contracts at Chatsworth House, Nottingham Castle and The Dance Hall in Edinburgh. |
