Norman
& Underwood are now the largest specialist traditional
lead casting company in the United Kingdom, having
been established in 1825. Since then the leadwork expertise
of the company's craftsmen has been utilised in the repairing
and restoration of not only the roofs of many of the finest
historic buildings in the United Kingdom but also on similar
prestigious projects throughout the world.
We
specialise in lead casting, ornamental leadwork, and lead
contracting. Lead casting is still carried out in the traditional
way on open sand beds using a process that has changed little
since Roman times. Utilising this method the highly skilled
craftsmen can cast lead very accurately in thickness to suit
the customers' individual requirements. The result is lead
that is naturally formed and malleable and lends itself readily
to cover roofs of Cathedrals, Churches, Palaces, Stately Homes
and other similar buildings of distinction. For more information
on our previous lead casting and roofing projects please see
the Major Projects section.
The
company's craftsmen, although experienced in leadwork, can
also supply and fix hard metals such as copper, stainless
steel, zinc and aluminium. In addition, the company specialises
in the refurbishment and supply of rainwater goods as well
as ornamental leadwork statues.
Accompanying
the lead specialist areas is a full Technical Advisory Service
whose estimators and surveyors are always happy to carry out
surveys and provide detailed reports and costings as required.
