Simple, stylish shapes in pure white set off by gleaming chrome mixer taps are very much in vogue, replacing once-popular gold taps, scalloped designs and pastel shades. And this back to bathroom basics approach is proving extremely popular with householders of all ages, reports bathroom specialist Norman & Underwood in St Peters Lane, Leicester. The company, which stocks the latest washbasins from top of the range German bathroom manufacturer Villeroy & Boch, has found most customers prefer good, clean practical designs. Peter Gledhill, general manager of Norman & Underwood’s Plumbing Division said: “The beauty of the new designs is that they look equally good in older properties as they do in modern homes. “Although there is still some demand for Victorian-style suites, the latest shapes also appeal to those people seeking a classic, contemporary feel. The new wash basin ranges are neutral, suiting a wide range of tastes, and on a purely practical level, they are easier to clean than the more fussy styles. “Plainer designs also work well with the beautiful tiles and bathroom accessories available today.” To continue the simple look, many of the basins stand on semi rather than full pedestals or top attractive wooden freestanding cupboards providing useful storage space. For trendsetters looking for something slightly more avant-garde, bowl shaped washbasins are now available in clear glass or even stainless steel.
