Norman & Underwood’s carpenters and joiners have the skills to undertake the finest joinery work to match any existing design or new commission, working with all types of timber from soft woods to well-seasoned oak.
We specialise in the restoration and conservation of timber framed roof structures and screens installed within churches. Our extensive experience includes traditional splice repairs or replacement of primary beams, trusses, wall plates, purlins and gutter bases, and installing complete new roof structures using mortice and tenants fixed with oak dowels or steel flitch plates.
For church screen repairs, our carpenters can repair or carve new sections to match any existing design. We have also undertaken many screen relocations, carefully loosening every joint, dismantling and then reassembling the screen safely in its new position.
Norman & Underwood always evaluates every project fully before starting work, wherever possible repairing and retaining original materials rather than replacing. We also check the environment to ensure good airflow and protection from leaks, helping to prolong the life of the wood.
